Paul was glad to be reunited with his friends, Aquila & Priscilla, at Ephesus. He went right to work. The first three months was spent in the Jewish synagogue trying to convince them that the kingdom of God they were expecting had been established several years before on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem. It was built by Jesus Christ! Many Jews simply wouldn’t believe it. They started verbally attacking Christianity. Paul decided to do something different.
Some think Tyrannus was a Greek philosopher. Others believe he was a Jewish rabbi. In either case he operated a public school in Ephesus (Acts 19:9). Paul decided to leave the synagogue! This was a huge move. The synagogue was the place of worship. It was the authoritative center of Jewish thought. Paul began to see that they would not open their mind and see the truth. He moved the disciples of Christ into the school of Tyrannus where the Christian doctrine could be taught.
For the next two years Paul taught regularly in the school of Tyrannus. Disciple of Christ would come there and receive in depth instruction about Jesus, His kingdom (the Church), and the proper way to worship God through Christ. They would leave Ephesus and take the teaching to their cities, towns, and villages in the region. In fact, during that two year period, the entire country of Asia Minor (present day Turkey) heard the word of the Lord Jesus (Acts 19:10)!
