Paul explained that everyone is a sinner in the first three chapters of his letter to the Romans. In the next three chapters he explains how we are saved from sin.
Faith in Christ! That is the bottom line! Paul used the Jewish patriarch, Abraham, to prove that God justifies folks by faith (Romans 4:3). Our salvation is conditioned on whether or not we believe that Jesus was raised from the dead after having died for our sins (Romans 4:24-25). Adam brought death into the world through his sin. Grace and life was brought to the world through Jesus (Romans 5:21).
Since we are saved by grace, Paul pleaded with his readers to stop sinning! Just as Jesus had died, was buried, and raised to glory, the Christian, through baptism, has died to their old sinful man, been buried in baptism, and raised to walk a new life (Romans 6:3-5). Since we are dead to sin, we should not let sin rule in our lives (Romans 6:11-12). Paul reminded the Christians that the penalty for sin is death, but the gift God is eternal life through Christ (Romans 6:23)!
